Red, White and Blue!

I've been flicking through my stash, and I came across this which has been sitting quite contentedly in my now for a little while without any attention from me.
10 strips 4"x41" long and a fat quarter.

Since I had the presence of mind to get my stash into some semblance of order, I find that my ideas are coming alot easier and I think that has to do with knowing exactly what I have in my stash and being able to see things in colour waves.

There is something quite cheery about red and white together.

I've decided to make a quilt with alternating 9 patch blocks and plain white blocks.

I'll machine sew the top and hand quilt it. I would like to make it bigger but I don't have enough red and white fabric to do this and I've done my head in looking for red and white fabric that would match.

I have the picture in my head as to what it will look like quilted. However I'm not making a start on this until I've conquered a few of my unfinished projects!

The other uncommenced project just kind of happened over the weekend. I also have these pretty blues in my bundle of fabric goodness.

I knew they wouldn't end up as a project I would keep for myself, as I wouldn't have a spot for a blue, white and yellow toned quilt. In fact, am mildly tempted to also give away Ferris the dog (see him peering through the window) with the aforementioned quilt after he trawled two sheridan bathsheets off the line on friday for a bit of a play.

On the weekend I went to visit a friend who is house sitting for a woman who is posted overseas with her job. He lives there rent free in exchange for looking after her dog. She manages to get home every 4-5 months for about a few weeks at a time. He really appreciates her generosity with this. Anyway here's the thing. She is MAD for anything blue and white! Everything from china, linen, tea towels - you name it - she loves it and she loves quilts. So the question as to what to do with the blue bundle kind of answered itself. Not entirely sure on the pattern but it will be machine stitched and quilted and hopefully before christmas!

Again, yet another project to think about once I have reduced the current pile of UFP's .

I never think about reds. I think of brights and I think of bolds but I never really factor in reds....I am thinking that I might have to do some considering of ye olde red! Sorry about the towel! - Jen

Hi thanks for dropping by at my blog. I'm returning the visit and am blown away by your blog, it's wonderful. I love the hungry caterpillar fabric, where did you get it? Your hand me down hexagon quilt is just beautiful, with all those memories stitched into it. I've started one with my girls that I think will take 30+ years to complete. Oh and I love the red and white fabric on this post, my favourite colours.
I'll add you and be back soon.
X Clare

I'm totally scared of reds - and made a scary bunny from red and white material once! I think white and another color is always a great combination! Thank you so much for visiting Rachael Rabbit ;-)
